   inspiration ;;
     "“To be able to throw one's self away for the sake of a moment, to be able to sacrifice..."

         - Hermann Hesse

The quote came only after I made the image, actually. Still, the idea I had in mind was "sacrifice". That quote actually goes on to something about a woman's smile, but I left that part out intentionally, of course. :P

This was kind of made on request. I was given free rein to design a layout for a player on SH, and after several attempts at a lighter image, I ran across this background. Immediately I knew what I wanted to do.

   my thoughts ;;
     I really enjoyed making this image, because I had to think about a story that would go behind it as I worked. Then I realized there doesn't need to be a story... the horse gives up his freedom for the dove, as simple as that. The kindness of strangers, something quite rare anymore.

I realized that when I walked into Target today... people just don't seem to sympathize with one another much. I had my arms full, and accidentally dropped something in the checkout line. The lady in front of me turned around, looked at the item near her feet, and proceeded to watch me trying to pick it up without dropping everything else. Why? I would have been bumping heads to help somebody if they dropped something like that...

   work stats ;;
     Not too much, and yet a lot, went into this. The dove was done first, and repositioned many many times.

The horse came next, and probably was the quickest part of the image. He is right were I placed him to begin with. XD

The cage and chain where next. The cage was not difficult, but the chain/rope was done by hand in hopes of matching the cage a bit. I think it turned out okay... certainly not detailed, but that happens. x.x

Colors and lighting adjusted on everything, blending, etc. Then searched for my quote.

Total, this probably took about six hours... off and on.

:S I thought I had sent out messages. I went ahead and sent them to the other stock providers just in case, though. Sorry about that.

Thank you!

I enjoy the grungy feel used on this one, more so than the other "grunge" inspired pieces. Very nice! Also, if I might make a request; have you ever read the Uglies series? You might not have, since it's more of a young adult book, but if you have, it might be an interesting concept for you to try out, possibly with humans in your manip (but horses would be pretty, too!). Could you try a sort of "coming of age" inspired piece, or a manipulation that symbolizes the choice to become a "perfect" being. Keeping individuality, or turning beautiful and keeping with the trend. If you haven't read Uglies, you might be a bit fuzzy on my meaning, haha :)

I will be featuring this in my next journal.
I'm deeply touched.
There's so much I am thinking, yet so little I can actually say...

Great meaning behind this. I've been reading a great book lately and the author challenges his readers to evaluate their motivations and concerns. We can go on with our lives oblivious the pains/problems of those around us, no concern at all but for ourselves. It really hit me hard. I've been doing some serious reevaluation of my actions lately. This image really speaks to me.

Beautifully done :heart:
