Artist's Comments  inspiration ;; As with my last deviation, it was just seeing the images that inspired me. Particularly the horse image here. my thoughts ;; Shiny horn... it actually matches his eye (the green part) and has gold winding around it. Why? Because I was thinking about jeweled animals, and if you have never read the Black Jewels trilogy, you just won't understand. work stats ;; -Put together three waterfall backgrounds (not going into details). - Added in cliff, and pulled down parts of waterfall rock to give it more of the "jungle" texture. - Added in horse; cut, cropped, blended, etc. - Painted in mane. - Painted in eye. - Touched up horse; feathering, shadows, etc. - Smudged out existing tail. - Painted in horn. - Painted in fog (ha - it sounds difficult when you say painted...) - Adjusted the layers again. - Adjusted the colors of the entire image. - Cropped out top waterfall (different type of rock), but pieces of it are still in this image, particularly the foliage. - Added border. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. - Paint in a "body" for the mane with a 3px brush.
- Fill in the upper part of the mane and some of the strands with a 5px brush.
- Erase any stray lines, so you only have solid body.
- Smudge with 3px brush (darken, 94-95% strength).
- Smudge with 3px brush (darken, 89-91% strength).
- Lots of painting in different colors.
- Smudge again with 3px brush (normal, 45-50% strength, layer transparency locked).
- Unlock layer and go over with paintbrush, 1px and a dark color.
