To make a long story short: I applied a studio last night, and while waiting to see if I would be accepted, I browsed through some of the orders. One in particular caught my attention, and I decided I'd give it a try just for the fun of it.

"Gray scales along the shoulders, hips, and lower legs; dull green reptile eyes; fangs (think crocodile); cloven hooves; roughly greyhound in shape, 17hh."

That is her physical description past the basics (color, breed, etc.). Hence some oddities to the horse.

I started just with the horse, cutting out and such.
- Added scales using a few different brushes and playing with colors/blends.
- Smudged the body of the horse.
- Used the liquify tool to make parts of the horse (head, forelegs) more delicate; drew the belly up some; brought the rump in a little.
- Worked out the mane and tail... I fail at hair.
- Adjusted hooves to hopefully make them look "cloven" from the sides... the split part would be seen from the front.
- Added the eyes, though with the lighting they are no longer visible...

Then I found a pretty basic background. Normally I like a bit of interest in the background, but there was so much going on with the horse I really didn't want to take away from that. Did the basics here; blending hooves, adding water spray, adding a reflection you probably can't see now.

Adjusted colors quite a bit, and tried to work navy in, as per request.
